Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is an essential skill for leaders. When leaders are faced with a challenge they must be able to assess the situation and form an appropriate solution. In situations where project results are largely affected by a manager or leaders decisions, it is vital for those in charge to have the skills to  make such decisions.

When faced with a problematic situation, a successful leader will analyze all of the information available. Following this a plan must be formed to fix what is not working smoothly, and still keep the relevant project on time for it's deadlines or due dates.

Artifact: Critical Thinking

The artifact I chose for this core competency is a paper written for a previous class taken; OGL 320: Foundations of Project Management. In this paper we were asked to study three companies, and their project failures. From these three situations we were to analyze the situation and propose a solution. This assignment made me use critical thinking to find a solution for three very different problems.

Reflection

While pursuing this degree, we have had the opportunity to learn about critical thinking multiple times. Every leader needs to be able to think critically in situations in able to best lead and support their team. In the Organizational Leadership Program we have had the opportunity to practice and develop our critical thinking skills while working in group projects. Group projects were a good place for me and my classmates to learn about and practice critical thinking because there are so many diverse people with different ideas.

Growth and Development

Before entering this program, I feel as though I was an average critical thinker. I could handle small problems on my own, and participate in group activities while contributing enough to get by. Now, after having learned about critical thinking, and all of the necessary skills and practice that comes with it, I am much more equipped to handle any problems that may arise. While working in group projects this semester, I have been faced with complex situations that required me to review all of the information at hand, the potential consequences of my choices, and the benefit to the team as a whole. Using critical thinking skills I learned form this program I can now successfully solve complex problems in the workplace.
